Newspapers of 19th Century Hempstead Texas

The smaller newspapers of the 19th century often obtained their news from word-of-mouth or by copying other papers, though some papers had access to telegraphed information or had reporters who investigated events. The time from when an event occurred until it was reported varied from the same day to days or weeks later. Errors in reporting were magnified by the fact that the smaller papers copied articles from other papers and reports were sometimes embellished without basis in fact.
