Waller county wants a local option election. There is something wrong around "Sixshooter Junction." The time was when a man's life was in danger if he even whispered against the saloons, but in the past year temperance meetings have been held throughout the county, unions formed, and in the past week a prominent saloonist in Hempstead filed a petition in bankruptcy. There's a gear loose somewhere. The good people of Waller county may firmly believe they are pursuing a course to cleanse their stained record, but before calling for a local option election they should first enforce the law against carrying pistols and curb the festive spirits of Hempstead that compels the presence of state rangers during the holidays to preserve the peace. A summary purging of the reckless spirits would be more to Waller county's credit than a successful local option election.
