JACK M'DADE GIVEN EIGHT YEARS FOR MURDER

An Unexpected Verdict — An Enjoyable German — Funeral Services — Washington's Birthday — MacCollin's Prima Donna Recovers — Social and Legal.

HOUSTON, February 22. — This morning at 11:20 o'clock the jury in the McDade murder case rendered their verdict after having been out two nights and part of two days. It was pretty well known about the courthouse that a verdict had been agreed upon before the jury made their appearance in the court; in fact, after they announced ready the prisoner had to be brought from the jail, and during this time the courtroom filled rapidly with people. The lawyers, Judge Cook, Messrs. Lubbock, Sears and Brown, for the defendant, were present. When the verdict of eight years was read the prisoner showed much feeling and wept a good deal. The verdict was a surprise, nobody thought of it being eight years.
