The Brenham Ranger learn from some who have just returned from the new town of Hempstead, (the fifty mile depot of the Houston railroad) that lots are selling in town extravagantly high, and buildings are going up as if by magic.  Its distance from Brenham is about twenty miles.

The Ranger says the surveyors on the proposed route from that place to Hempstead will finish the survey this week.  Their report is looked for with much interest.
