"Taking the Test (Collecting the DNA Sample)" |
 |
Submitting your DNA sample to the lab is simple -- you take a swab (that resembles
a Q-Tip) and rub it on the inside of your cheek. You then place it into the supplied
vial and mail it back to the testing company (Family Tree DNA). |
Visit this site
for pictures and a description of the sample collection process.

Which Test Do I Take? |
 |
There are two categories of tests: |
- mtDNA
- Y-DNA
|
You can purchase either or both of those. Only the Y-DNA test results can
be used in our Project. The mtDNA information may be of interest to you and
you will receive our group discount rate if you choose to order that test (see
the prices below).

Okay, Which Y-DNA Test Do I Take?
|
 |
- The 12-marker test can tell you that you are NOT related. If you have a
perfect match at 12 markers, you might be related and further research and/or
a higher resolution DNA test is in order.
- The 25-marker test is very helpful, but not as useful as the 37 marker test.
- We have found that the 37 marker test is the most useful for our needs.
- The 67 marker test can be used for deciphering relationships in close relatives.
- (See the FAQ for answers to this and
other questions.
