Assassination in Hempstead.
Special to the Gazette.
HEMPSTEAD, Tex., Oct. 15 — Last Saturday night Lewis McDade, a colored Republican politician, was shot through the heart and instantly killed in one of the public streets by a concealed assassin. To-day the citizens held a mass-meeting and passed strong resolutions condemning the murder. A reward was contributed by the citizens for the capture or a clew to the murderer. The murder is still a mystery. There is no excitement at present.
