ASSASSINATION IN HEMPSTEAD.
Lewis McDade, Colored Candidate for Cotton Weigher, Shot Down.
HEMPSTEAD, Tex., October 14. — Lewis McDade, colored, a prominent republican politician, was shot and killed last night about 10 o'clock on one of the public streets by a concealed assassin.
There is no clue to the dastardly deed. He was a candidate for the office of cotton weigher on the republican ticket.
Everybody here condemns the deed. Full particulars can not be obtained at present.
