EXCITEMENT AT HEMPSTEAD.
—
Circulars Signed by Junius Recall the Crimes Committed in Waller County..
HEMPSTEAD, Tex., July 5. — On opening the postoffice yesterday morning Postmaste (sic) Young found 250 printed circular letters, postage paid, addressed to persons getting mail at this office. As soon as the postmaster learned of the contents, one having been addressed to himself, he feared that he would violate the United States postal laws by distributing them, and therefore laid the matter before the United States district attorney for a decision. He expects an answer to-morrow morning.
The contents of the circulars contain a review of nearly all the crimes which have been committed in Waller county for many years, and make pointed and direct charges against one of the most prominent citizens of Waller county. Good citizens here condemn this kind of warfare. The circulars are signed Junius.
The event has caused another ripple of excitement here.
Mr. Ton J. Nash, burned with kerosene on Sunday last, is rapidly recovering from his injuries, and his physician states that he will be able to resume his place on the railroad in a few weeks. The railroad boys will all be glad to read this information, for Tony is a popular man among them.
