Application for Bail Refused — Delined to Make the Race.

Special to the Gazette.

AUSTIN, TEX, June 27. — The item of interest in court and reportorial circles to-day was the decision of the Court of Appeals on the application for bail on habeas corpus of Dick Springfield and Jack McDade, the assassins of Steven Alchin in Hempstead recently.  The court sustained the ruling of Judge McFarland in the court below, denying the prisoners bail, and therefore virtually pronouncing their crime murder in the first degree.  Unless they can get a negro jury it looks now like Springfield and McDade will hang in the near future.

Judge Townes of this district declines to run for District Judge.
