This is a brief ill-arranged, and incomplete record of the Cloud family, beginning with my great-great grandfather Clark Cloud.
- (Her 2nd great grandfather was Jeremiah Cloud.)
Information given me by my parents, Thomas Caldwell Cloud and Alabama (Allie) Lucinda Wyms was lost. Most of the facts herein contained were related to me by my uncle Charles Alexander Cloud Jr. at Graham, Texas in November 1954.
- (Her uncle ?Eck? Cloud was born a year after his great-grandfather Jeremiah Cloud died in 1861. He was 92 when he related this to Florice.)
In 1845, soon after Texas was admitted to the Union, Clark Cloud came from Montgomery, Alabama and settled in Austin County, Texas. He bought a tract of the Mexican head-right land which could be had in exchange for a pair of brogand boots or a jug of whiskey.
- (Her great-grandfather, Henry George Washington Cloud, came to Texas in March of 1846, settling first in Austin county and then in Waller county.)
Children of Clark Cloud: Bill Cloud who settled in Milam County, Texas; Jake Cloud who settled in Blanco, Texas; J.A. Cloud who settled in Comanche, Texas and George Washington Cloud who married Adeline Mcdade and settled in Austin County, Texas.
- (This list of children is confusing. George Washington Cloud (Henry George Washington Cloud) was the son of Jeremiah and Elizabeth Cloud. Bill Cloud who settled in Milam county was the grandson of Jeremiah and Elizabeth. John Clark Cloud settled in Comanche county and was a son of Jeremiah. Another son of Jeremiah was A.J. Cloud, perhaps this is the J.A. Cloud she mentions.)
Charles Alexander Cloud was the son of George Washington Cloud and Adeline McDade, he married Jane Elizabeth Calvert. My father Thomas Caldwell Cloud was the oldest child of this union and was born near Buckhorn, Austin county, Texas, 22 September 1856.
Jane Elizabeth Calvert's father was Major George Calvert. He also, came from Alabama. It is not known if "Major" was a first name or designation of military rank.
Thomas Caldwell Cloud and Alabama (Allie) Lucinda Wyms were married at Belton, Texas, January 1, 1883. They moved to Burnet County, Texas soon afterward and bought land and sett1ed about five miles north of Briggs, Texas. All of their eight children were born on this ranch. In the early1900's they moved to a place about two miles south of Briggs where they lived for a short time. Then they moved to a farm and ranch two and one half miles west of Briggs where they lived until January 1, 1945, when they moved to Lampasas, Texas.
Allie Wyms (Wims) was born in Freestone County, Texas October 7, 1863 and was the daughter of George Washington Wyms and Jane Elizabeth Holdaway. Her grandparents on her mothers side was Eoch Holdaway and Mary Ann Hutchason.
George Washington Wyms came from Alabama and his folks came from Scotland. He was killed in the Civil War and buried in Galveston and his body was washed out to sea during a flood.
