F.C. Cullers
The subject of this notice is a Virginian, having been born in Page County, Virginia in 1837. He made his appearance on the Pacific Coast in 1853, coming by the familiar Isthmus route. Directing his steps toward the southern mines, he began digging at Yankee Hill, remaining there for the almost unprecedented time of sixteen years! His next and final location was Confidence. Mr Cullers enjoys the esteen of his associates in a remarkable degree, holding as he does the office of Worthy Chief of the large and florishing Lodge of Good Templars at the above place. His wife, nee Miss A. M. Eastwood, to whom he was marrried in Sonora, together with the following named children, form his family: Robert F., William C., Henry M., and Laura B.

"Francis and family started out mining the Hard Times Mine in Arastraville. The mined 10 miles underground until the vein ran out. (From Charles Clinton Cullers as told to his daughter Creobelle, it is learned that once they test ore they can tell you where it is from even if the vein is found somewhere else) In 1886 Francis Clinton moved with his family to Buchanan where they lived 4-5 years where they mined the same vein. It ran out and they moved back to Arastraville where they mined the Dead Horse Mine."

Passing of F.C. Cullers
"Francis Clinton Cullers, a resident of Tuloumne County since the year 1853, died at the famly home in Arastravile, June 6. 1905, a the age of 67 years. Mr. Cullers health had been remarkably good until about two weeks ago, when he became aflicted with paralysis, and the news of his death, although he was advanced in years, reached his friends who were unaware of his illness as a great and sad surprise.
The first years of his residence in this county were spent in Columbia, where he was engaged in mining, wich occupation, like most of the pioneers, he followed until called to his final rest. From Columbia, he moved to Arastraville, where the last years of his life were spent. Mr. Cullers was a man who enjoyed the respect and good will of all who kenw him, being honest, trustworthy and true to his fellow creatures;and he will be greatly missed by his countless friends.
A widow and four grown children - - Frank, William, Henry, Roy and Laura Cullers - -survive him. The funeral, which took place Friuday, was largely attended. The remains were interred in the Carters Cemetery - - New Era."
