- Mt. Hope Methodist commemrorative pamphlet, 175th Anniversary, by Richar P. Lawyer, p 10. under Aaron Mattson states, "Margaret [Peggy] Mattson, dau. of Morris Mattson, married Admiral Edward Vernon who had been the commanding officer with Geo. Washington's brother, Laurence, on an expedition to the West Indies. Vernon often visited the Washington brothers in their home and it was for the Admiral and his wife that Mt. Vernon, the Washington's plantation was named." Further RESEARCH discovered this to be in error and that Margaret married Abraham Vernon of Provdence, Chester, PA. on 23 Dec 1765 at Swedes Church, Phila., Phila.Co, PA. (Source: PA Archives, 2nd Series, Vol VIII, p. 522.) They resided in Newttown, Chester, PA, according to tax records where Margaret's brother Moses & sister Eliz. Mattson Patterson lived in 1774. .
For descendants see Volume III/IV of "John Mattson and His Descendants" by Ella Matson Lindsay. (Titled: Morris Mattson Who Helped to Build Our Nation")
Effie Doering document "Genealogy of the Matson Family" 1936 at Ohio Historical Society gives Margaret's birth date as 12 Aug 1745.
