- Obituary for Samuel H. "Tex" Lisenbee:
"Tex" Lisenbee Dies at Son's Grandview Home
The passing of Samuel (Tex) Lisenbee leaves another gap in the ranks of the men who have helped write the history of the Mojave Desert.
Mr. Lisenbee, a retired carpenter, died suddenly at the home of his son, Samuel, in Grandview, February 2nd. He has for the past few years made his home in Yucalpa, and was visiting with his son at the time of his death.
Though a native of Texas, Mr. Lisenbee was associated with and well-known in Barstow for many years. Two of his six sons are residents of this area.
In addition to his widow, Sara Euphie Lisenbee of Yucalpa, Alley Lisenbee of Barstow, and Samuel Lisenbee of Grandview, four other sons, Dewey T., North Hollywood; Jay, Bakersfield; Leroy, Yucalpa; and L.C. Lisenbee of Medford, Oregon are listed as survivors. A brother, William L. Lisenbee is still a resident of Texas.
Funeral arrangements were in the hands of O'Donnel's Funeral Home. Interment took place in the family plot in the San Jacinto Cemetery at Hemet.
Questions regarding Euphie's name and the son named Jay in the obit above, answered by Ellen Williams Crawford email of Sat, 20 Jan 2001:
"The information on Aunt Euphie's children came from Aunt Euphie herself. She gave it to my sister many years ago. It was written on a piece of paper that is still in the possession of my sister. I never heard of Sarah Euphie. She always said her name was Euphie Ellen....her mother's name was Sarah. I don't know who "Jay" was....probably just a nickname."
