    • "This indenture made this 10th day of June in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and seventy four between James G. Martin of the County of Stokes and State of North Carolina of the one part and William New and Madison New of the County of Stokes and State of North Carolina of the other part. Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Two Hundred Dollars to the said part of the first part in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath sold and conveyed and does hereby sell and convey to the said parties of the second part their heirs and assigns all that tract or parcel of land lying in the County of Stokes and State of North Carolina bounded as follows, viz:  Beginning at a white oak running north 45 degrees for 65 poles to a stake at Toms Creek and 100 poles crossing the creek to a dogwood near Uriah Francis Spring eighty poles to a point where a white oak corner formerly stood North 75 poles to a stake on the bank of Toms Creek thence down the creek as it meanders to where the old line crosses East with the old line 33 poles to two dogwoods thence South 110 poles to the beginning.  Known as the Benjamin Coomer tract and containing one hundred acres more or less.
      "To have and to hold the same with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to them the said parties of the second part their heirs and assigns forever.  And the said party of the first part for the consideration aforesaid, does hereby covenant and agree to warrant and defend the premises aforesaid to the said parties of the second part their Heirs, Executors, Administrators and Assigns against this claim and entry of all persons whatsoever and he does further covenant that he is seized of the premises in fee simple and hath power to make and convey such as estate by this Indention and hath done the same by these presents to the said William New and Madison New.  In witness whereof the said party of the first part hath hereunto set his hand and seal this day and year above written."

      State of North Carolina, Stokes County, In the Probate Court - On this the 7th of July, 1874 came personally before me Squire Venable, Judge of Probate for said county, James G. Martin and his wife L. E. A. Martin and acknowledged the due execution by them of the foregoing deed for the purposes therein mentioned whereupon I proceeded to take the examination of the wife of the said James G. Martin separate and apart from her said husband touching her free consent in the execution of said deed when she declared that she had executed the said deed freely and voluntarily without any force, fear or undue influence on the part of her said husband or any other person, that she is satisfied with having signed the said Deed and now voluntarily assents thereto therefore let the said Deed together with this certificate be registered.                                      (Signed)  Squire Venable
