  Notes	There is a conflict between the date of marriage listed in the Stokes County Marriage Bonds record book and the date for the birth of the first child.  The Stokes County, NC 1850 census and the Stokes County, NC 1860 census give the year of William Madison New's birth as 1845 and family records give his date of birth as September 24, 1845, yet the Stokes County marriage records indicate that James and Nancy (Shelton) New were married in 1846.  This researcher has not been able to resolve the conflict.
