- Jabez Isbell left Warren County, TN in 1813 and moved south into Madison County, Mississippi Territory. He and Andrew Gailey were fellow soldiers in the War of 1812. They were both privates in the 16th Regiment (Burrus), Mississippi Militia. Andrew Jackson assembled his forces in Huntsville, Madison County, Mississippi Territory, for the start of his campaign against the Creek Indian Nation. The English had enlisted the Creek warriors to assist their cause by harassing the American settlers. Jackson used the Creek Indian massacre at Ft. Mims on 30th August, 1813, as an excuse for what followed. He led his army south from Huntsville across land that would later become the state of Alabama. The army fought battles against the Creek Indians at Horseshoe Bend (March 27, 1814), Ft. Mims, Mobile, Ft. Bowyer (September 15, 1814), Pensacola (November 7, 1814), Lake Borgine (December 1, 1814) and finally the battle of New Orleans (December 13, 1814 - January 8, 1815).
Jabez Isbell and Andrew Gailey returned to Madison County following their tour of duty and settled on adjoining farms in Lawrence County, AL. The siren call of the untamed frontier was too strong for them to resist and they were both residing in Texas by 1850.
