  Notes	Several members of the extended New family claim that George Leonard New was killed at the battle of Cowpens, SC during the Revolutionary War.  This researcher has not found any documentation to support the claim.  There was a militia company from Stokes and Surry counties involved in the action and George Leonard New could have been a member of the company.  However, his name does not appear in any of the muster rolls that this researcher has seen.
