- If one can believe the date of Isham's birth as entered in the Madison County, AL 1900 census, he was born in 1856. This would agree with his age entered in the Jackson County, AL 1880 census. However, it conflicts with the ages entered in the Marshall County, AL 1860 census and the Jackson County, AL 1870 census. There is an even greater discrepancy in the Marshall County, AL 1850 census. The only explanation this researcher can devise for this discrepancy is for a child to have been born to Robert and Milissa Anderson in 1850 who was named Francis. This child died in infancy and another son was born in 1856 who was named Isham Francis Anderson. Any other rational explanation would be welcomed.
Isham lived the early years of his life in Marshall County, AL. He was living with his widowed mother in Jackson County, AL by 1870. He lived alone in Jackson County at the time of the 1880 census. His occupation was entered as farm laborer.
Isham Francis swore in an affidavit filed on behalf of his brother, Andrew Murray, that he was present at the death of Ann Eliza (Gailey) and attended her funeral and burial in Jackson County, AL.
Isham married Dora Pressley on July 7, 1895 in Jackson County, AL. He and his new bride were soon living within one and one-fourth miles of Andrew and Bettie Anderson in Knoxville, Johnson County, AR. He and his younger brother, George Washington Anderson, later moved to Russellville, Pope County, AR. Soon after the death of Murray, Isham was appointed guardian of two of Murray's minor children. The guardianship was revoked when he moved out of the state sometime between November, 1897 and April, 1898. He had returned to Madison County, AL.
According to family oral history, Isham returned to Jackson County, AL later in life and there is where he died and was buried. He did not have any children.
