- Obituary:
Hazel Maxine Messenger, age 91, returned to her loving heavenly home on June 30, 2016. She was born July 16. 1924 and was raised on the family farm in the Silver Lake branch area, owned and operated by her parents, James Franklin and Etta Florence (Cloud) Wilson.
Hazel married her best friend, Otis C. Messenger, on January 2, 1942. They continued the farming tradition by living and working on their farm where they raised their three children with patience, discipline, and humility. From the very beginning, they dedicated their children to God and encouraged them to be vigilant in their commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. She taught them to work hard in all they did. She was a strong and humble Christian woman who was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother.
Hazel was kind and soft-spoken and always had time to listen and speak kindly with others on any issue, no matter how small. She is remembered as the most honest, loving, and genuine person.
Her loved ones celebrate the fact that she is now at peace with her creator and they will dearly miss Hazel. She is survived by a daughter, Loretta Porter and husband Denis; her two sons, Jimmy Franklin Messenger, and Gene Messenger and wife Margie; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Shale Messenger, Shawn Messenger, Sharlan Kozack, Rodney and Toni Messenger, Sarah and Michael Terral, Allen and Lisa Porter, and Annette Warnke; nine great grandchildren; and 23 great great grandchildren.
Her husband, parents, and a sister, Odeta Calvin Jenkins, preceded Hazel in death.
There will be a visitation 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016, in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic, Missouri. The graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6th, in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, south of Clever, Missouri. Following the service, Hazel will be laid to rest beside her loving husband.
