      Raymond Shirley wrote (2005):
"The continuation of the genealogy of my Cloud family line back in time beyond this generation is based upon the work of numerous Cloud researchers who have spent countless hours in the musty basements of county court houses and the reading rooms of libraries scattered all over this country.  These researchers have submitted their findings to the Cloud family historian, Janice G. Cloud, for  publication in the Cloud Family Journal.
My thanks goes to Quaker genealogist Gilbert Cope of West Chester, PA, Thomas Maxwell Potts' work on the Cloud family, Rachel Pond's book on William Cloud and his descendants, Janice G. Cloud, Cloud family historian and editor and publisher of the Cloud Family Journal.
Harry Hogan and I have amassed a very large collection of documents covering the movements of Joseph and Isaac Cloud during the population migration south out of Pennsylvania and Delaware across Virginia and into North Carolina.  Harry has done an excellent analysis of these documents.  The analysis has been published in The Cloud Family Journal, Vol. XXII, No. 1, pages 14 - 17, Vol. XXII, No. 4, pp 85 - 92 and Vol. XXIV, Nos. 1 & 2, pp 8 - 15.
I owe a special thanks to Sherrill Cloud and Dee Ann Lamb whose research pointed me in the right direction."
