- Obituary:
DEATH OF DAVID CLOUD. The news Tuesday morning to the effect that David Cloud had expired the evening before was indeed startling to those who had observed him on the street Monday in apparent excellent bodily vigor. After the supper hour Monday with is wife they spent the evening on the verandah of their residence, perusing the News as was their custom; there was not a thing indicating approaching illness, or that he should be apprehensive of immediate death. They retired about nine o'clock. A little after ten he suddenly sprang up in bed, and groaned as if in terrible pain. It was sufficient to alarm the neighbors who ran in, only in time to see him expire, in about 10 minutes from time of first symptoms. Death was the result of a hemorrhage similar to attacks he has recently previously suffered.
Mr. Cloud was at one time in the hardware business here, just after the war by his general avocation was that of farming. He owned farming tracts just west of town at his death. Mr. Cloud was born in Henry county IN. May 1833, consequently was in his 70th year. He came to this vicinity when but 7 years of age where he has ever since remained. He was married to Rebecca Horner in 1859, and she still survives him. No children were born to them, but their life companionship has been one of much devotion, tenderness and care for each other. He was by birthright a Quaker, but in 1871affiliated with M. E. church.
He leaves beside a widow, a brother in California, another in Indianapolis and a sister here. The funeral service was held Wednesday forenoon from the late residence with religious service by Reverends Buckles, Bowers and Bassett. The body was laid to rest at Sugar Plain. Mr. Cloud was frugal, industrious and an honorable, upright man. Higher eulogy than can not be accorded to greatness."
