  Notes	Tradition has it that Bill Whittington met Martha Holland after he lost his money in a poker game on his way to college in Huntsville. As a result of this misfortune, Bill went to work for Martha s father. Martha s family had settled near Village Mills (in present day Hardin County) in 1846 being among the pioneer settlers in that area.
