      Mr. George W. Carroll and Miss Underhill Mixson were the first couple who had a church wedding, their ceremony being performed November 20, 1877, in the structure built jointly by the Baptists and Methodists on the site where the T . S. Reed grocery company building now stands. Mrs. Carroll was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Mixson, who lived in the block where the Alamo cafe, and the Carter music store are now located.
