OBITUARY
-------------
Mrs. Pickie Ward, wife of John C. Ward, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Wesley Kyle, Jasper county. Was born 29th June, 1855, and died in Beaumont, Texas -- of typhoid fever -- August 28th, 1884.
We often see this quotation: "None knew her but to love her, none named her but to praise." This can be most truly repeated of our dear departed friend. In every relation of life she sustained the character of a noble, christian-hearted women.
Our weak human judgement cannot comprehend why she was taken in early life from a pleasant home, a kind, loving husband; four sweet little boys, and many relatives and friends. Gut God doeth all things well; His wisdom to the end can see; unto His will we must submit. God grant that we may all meet dear Pickie again, in the home of the blest. M.J.M.
Beaumont, Sept. 3d, 1884.
...
Just over death's mighty river,
Where the unseen sentinels stand,
The angels have borne our darling
To the shores of the summer-land.
She has passed the shining portal,
Throught the gate of the newly born,
Where her spirit lives immortal
In the light of a golden morn.
The stem of the tree is broken,
Still in freshness and beauty flushed,
And sends a perfume which will linger
Long after the leaves are crushed.
And though her being is absent,
Her presence we know is near,
For as we wander and listen,
Her whispering still is near.
But a few more shadowy sunsets,
A few more clouds of care,
When our closest ties will sunder,
And we shall be over there
To join the countless myriads
From the realms of the distant spheres
To meet and dwell with the loved ones,
Through Eternity's endless years.
