      "Elizabeth G. Cloud, Born Sept. 23, 1818. Died May 9, 1881. Age 62 yrs, 7 mos, 16 days; Rest in peace thou gentle Spirit throned above; Souls like thine with God Inherit life and love"
    Notes 
    • In 1831, when Elizabeth Grace was 13, her parents had moved from Tennessee to Lowndes Co, AL near Selma.  There they live in comfortable circumstances ... with servants all around to do everything, until Dr. Kennedy died and Augustus moved away.
      Perhaps her marriage to William A. Cloud was performed at Todd's Hill Church, where she worshipped and where she was an active worker and leader.
          Five years after their marriage, William & Gracy (Kennedy) Cloud took their two sons to Louisiana, leaving the tiny grave of their baby girl in Todd's Hill Churchyard.  During their 11 year residence in Louisiana, Gracy had six more children, but three died in the summer if 1850 (in the space of two weeks), and her husband's health was steadily declining.
          So, having been advised to seek a more healthful climate, the Clouds set out for California with five children, including the infant, Thomas Jeffers on, reluctantly leaving three small graves.
      As a relief from the jolting wagon, Gracy bought a horse named Rock, a side saddle and an umbrella to ward off the hot sun.  She held the baby in her arms and had a child on behind her while crossing the long stretches of prairie.  In addition to all the discomforts of the trip, the loss of her umbrella was a misfortune that she remembered years afterward.
          Three months of arduous traveling brought the Clouds as far as Brushy Creek in Central Texas in 1851.  Since William was feeling much better, they decided to make their home in Williamson County, TX.  While living in their rustic log cabin, Gracy gave birth to Eliza Catherine and George Augustus.  Between 1854 and 1860 they built a large rock house nearby.
          After 30 years in Texas, Gracy died at her home three miles east of Leander and was buried in the Bagdad Cemetery.  Not long after her death the land was divided among the six surviving children.  The rock house was kept in the family until about 1960, being owned last by Mrs. Zora (Mason) Davis, widow of Augustus Kennedy Davis who was the son of Amzy A. and Martha Ann (Cloud) Davis.
