He and his family lived in Sabine Pass. He built the Presbyterian Church and did a lot of work on the Methodist Church. He was Superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School for many years and was loved by all who knew him. He built a sailboat for himself named the "Tom & Abel". He was a duly licensed Camtain, and made trips to New York in his vessel and numbefous coastwise trips for transporting freight. He built many homes in San Augustine.
