- Obituary:
Lucille Bates Cloud, 88, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009, in Norman, Oklahoma. She was born August 14, 1920 in Konawa, Oklahoma to Lillie Nona (Simpson) and Benjamin Harrison Bates. She graduated from Konawa High School in 1937 and from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma in 1941. Upon graduation, she taught the business courses at Konawa High School. On July 14, 1945, Lucille married Capt. Carl Everett Cloud and began her life as a military wife, a life she thoroughly enjoyed. She and Carl lived and raised a family in many states and overseas. Lucille was a wonderful homemaker. Her greatest joy in life was her children and later her grandchild. She devoted her life to caring for her family. Lucille loved to dance, and she enjoyed playing bridge. In order to keep up with Carl's bountiful garden and fruit trees, she started canning, winning many ribbons for her labor. Lucille was preceded in death by her son, Michael Dennis Cloud; her parents; sisters, Jewel Frances Archer and Dorotha Mae Coyle; and brothers, Gilbert Bates and Ray William Bates. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Carl; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Richard Ellis; daughter, Teresa Cloud; and grandson, Jeremy Brooks Cloud. Special thanks to her caregiver, Debbie Duck for her support and kindness to Lucille and family. Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2009, at Konawa Cemetery in Konawa, Oklahoma.. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
