    Notes
    • According to a romantic story, she was traveling to Bartlesville, I.T. from Kentucky when the wagon train was attacked by Indians.  The dashing Emmett Dalton was one of the men who drove them off and they fell in love.
A lot of violence surrounded Julia and some say she instigated part of it.  One account says she married an Indian (Albert Whiteturkey) so she could remain in Indian Territory and be eligible for benefits from the BIA and then divorced him, but the family disputes that.  She married Bob Gilstrap and had a daughter with him. A gunfight between Lenno and Gilstrap resulted in the death of Gilstrap.  She married Bob Lewis.  Bob Lewis would later pick a fight with a U.S. Marshall and be killed.  She then married Emmett Dalton and, after his death, John Johnson, thus regaining her maiden name.
(The story about her coming from Kentucky to Indian Territory is probably incorrect in part or in total as she was with her family in Grayson county, TX for the 1880 census.)

    • Robert Lewis and his wife, Julia Johnson owned a saloon in Bartlesville named the Uno Joint.  Indian Territory was to become the state of Oklahoma at midnight of November 16, 1907, at which time the commissions of two U.S. Marshals, George Williams and Fred Keeler, would expire.  Robert set out to kill them and he himself was killed by Marshal Fred Keeler, just hours before Oklahoma became a state.
