His great grandson, Samuel Seybold, said that he lived on the river Rhine and married a German girl in 1717. In the same article, Samuel says Jasper Sr. came to the New World in 1732, the year Geo. Washington was born, taking shipping at Amsterdam on an over-crowded ship. During the long voyage, with scarce provisions, many became ill and died, including all the Seybolds save his son, Jasper Jr.
There is speculation that the Seybolds came originally from Scotland to Germany. The Scottish clans SEYBOLD, SIBBALD, SIBBULD and SIBBALL are associated with the Fife district. The rich farmlands of Fife have been a major source of agricultural wealth since prehistoric times. Bounded by the Firths of Fourth and Tay, separated from the mainland by the Ochil Hills and Lomond Hills, it was often referred to as the "Wee Kingdom", though it never was a Kingdom.
Noted for its distinctive coastline and many picturesque small towns and fishing ports, Fife was predominant in the early history of Scotland. Dunfermline, Falkland and St. Andrews were most important towns in Stewart times. Traces of Bronze Age settlements, Roman ruins, medieval churches and modern towns are all to be found in Fife.
