(the census taker got carried away writing TX as place fathers birth for everyone and made a mistake on this one. Should have been AL just like Jasper's.
At first I thought Nancy Day might be the mother-in-law until I looked back at my records and noticed that Andrew Jackson had married Nancy Wood. This must mean that A.J. died much earlier and Nancy remarried Mr. Day, who must have also died.
Another interesting tidbit is that the name of the census taker was R. H. Colvin. Coincidence that Jasper named a son 'Colvin'???? Could his wife's maiden name possibly have been 'Colvin'??
His wife must have died within the last year or two since Susan was 1 (not knowing her real birthday, she could have been about to turn 2??) during this census.
On 3-6-1998, Lura Black wrote that Jackson and Nancy's marriage license was given by the courthouse in Washington County to Tom W. Wood on July 15, 1988 (address listed as 3506 Stonehaven, San Antonio, Texas 78230).
In June, 1998, "Joyce Wells" jwwells-at-our-town.com> wrote:
"I'll tell you what I know about the Wood/Cloud connection. I am researching the James T. Wood (ca.1797-1862) family. James T. Wood came to Green DeWitt's Colony in 1831. His land grant was in DeWitt County. The land grant of his father-in-law, Spencer Morris, was in (now) Caldwell County, Texas. In 1838 James T. Wood was in Washington County, Texas where he paid taxes. Later he moved to DeWitt County and then to Caldwell County. In 1854 he moved to San Saba County, Texas.
"... Thomas Riley (T.R.) Wood, told me that one of the "Wood girls" married a man named "Cloud". A few years later I came across another relative who ... had compiled a family sheet on James T. Wood which claimed Kate Wood (b.1822) married ______ Cloudt. I never found her source for this .... Her information was that Kate died in childbirth of her first child.
"I also found in my research that the Morris men (brother-in-laws of James T. Wood) had witnessed deeds in DeWitt County with A. J. Cloud and others named Cloud, which led me to believe the family sheet and my grandfather's memory might be correct. When I saw that Nancy Wood had married Jackson Cloud in Washington County in 1838, I thought it possible this was James T. Wood's daughter since he was living in Washington County at the time. Also, A. J. Cloud and his wife Nancy were living in DeWitt County in 1850. James T. Wood had been living there until 1847 when they moved to Caldwell County.
"The 1850 census said Nancy Cloud was born 1825 in Texas which did not jibe with the family sheet saying she was born 1822 in Tennessee and her name was Kate. I believe James T. Wood's mother to be named Nancy so thought it possible her name was Nancy Kate and three years is not too big a discrepancy on a census - or a family sheet, for that matter. However, James T. Wood's daughter could not have been born in Texas until after 1831. Frankly, not many people were living in Texas in 1822. That is very early to have been born in Texas.
"I do know that the Wood and Morris family lived near the Clouds in Washington, DeWitt, Burnet and later San Saba County, Texas. Spencer Morris, a brother in law of James T. Wood, lived in Burnet County at the same time the Clouds were there. One of James T. Wood's sons, John Wood, married in Burnet County. And of course, one of Andrew Jackson's descendants, Jasper Cloud was in the 1900 census, age 52 in Brownwood, Texas.
"I am especially interested in Andrew Jackson Cloud, born about 1872, first married Sloan. He lived at Richland Springs, Texas, and died about 1956. Incidentally, one of James T. Wood's children married a Sloan at Richland Springs.
