Alton David "Slim" Nevels Sr. died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He was 72, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of Walker. He was a retired millwright and an Army veteran. Visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, Thursday, Sept. 2, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation continues at the funeral home chapel Friday from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Burial in Vicker's Cemetery, Walker. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David Jr. and Melissa Nevels; three grandchildren, Whitney, Julie and Kyle Nevels; and a great-grandchild, Ilana Rushing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Dale Covington Nevels; parents, Walter L. and Essie Taylor Nevels; and two brothers, Calvin and L. Nevels.The Advocate, Baton Rouge, LA, September 2, 2010.
