2 May 1785 -- State of Georgia -- By the Court of Justices of the County of Burke -- to Thomas Lewis Ely, County Surveyor for the County of Burke -- You are hereby authorized and required to admeasure and lay out, or cause to be admeasured and laid out, unto Beuben Barrow a Tract of land, which shall contain 150 acres, in the said County of Burke, on ?? Creek adjoined on three sides of a tract of 50 acres already ordered him, on his headrights. Taking especial care that the same has not heretofore been laid out to any person or persons. And you are hereby also directed and required to record the Plat of the same in your office, and transmit a copy thereof, together with this warraant, to the Surveyor General, within six months from this date. Given under my hand, as Senior Justice of said County, this 2nd day of May 1785. (This order suggest that Reuben Barrow had already received a headright tract of 50 acres for a single man, but was now a married man with a wife and two children, thereby entitling him to an additional 150 acres, to be laid off adjoining the 50 acres previously ordered for him.)
1 Jan 1787 -- Reuben Barrow appears on Spanish Census at Mobile, (at the American Establishment on the Tensaw River) aged 28 yrs. (b.1758/59) and a widower with two sons.
15 Jan 1887- -Reuben Barrow at Mobile in the Louisiana Territory took the Oath of Allegiance  and about this same time he married as his second wife, Mary Jane Johnston (dau/of Daniel Johnston and Susanne Daly--Daniel Johnston also appears on the Census of 1 Jan 1787 living in the same settlement). The Roman Catholic faith was established by law in this territory as the only one to be tolerated and all American Colonists were compelled to embrace the Roman Catholic faith. Thus we find Reuben Barrow's children being baptized in the Catholic Church.
1802 -- He purchased 2000 acres from the chief of the Attakapas.  This land was situated on Bayou Queue de Torque, a tributary of the Mermentau River, which forms the modern boundary between Vermillion and Acadia parishes in what later became the state of Louisiana. When Mary Jane Barrow died, about 1815, Reuben moved his family farther north to the Bayou Crocodrie, which placed them closer to the frontier
9 Jul 1807 -- "St. Landry Parish Court Case #159 -- Petition -- Barrow versus Cormier -- Barrow represents that Anacolett Cormier is justly indebted to him in the sum of $67.00 for work and labor done and performed to the chair and cabriolet ...as will more fully appear by a request in writing...said Anacolett refuses to pay..."  Judgement by default was rendered against Monsieur Cormier on 27 Jul  1807. (This documents shows Reuben Barrow was a carriage maker and could read and write French)
