Notes	W.T. Block wrote an article for the Beaumont Enterprise, dated March 28, 2001. "Mrs. John McFarland was born Mary Coffin at Sabine Pass in 1850. She was educated in Beaumont, where she lived most of her 77 years." Mr. Block also wrote in "From Cotton Bales to Black Gold": "After her father's death in 1866, Mary Coffin (later McFarlane) enjoyed the status of adopted daughter in the Wiess household." (Note that the 1860 census gives her age as 7.)
