in possession of Joyce Hughes Ridley, given to her by her father, David
Leslie Hughes.
Marriage: 1894 Alameda Co. Book "S", p.63 of marriage certificates. They supposedly met in Red Bluff. Vivian Coffman McGrath told me they were married there. Ernie Coffman says he was told by his Aunt Viola that when Uncle Dave was courting her, he would drive from Oakland to Red Bluff in his horse and surrey.

All are registered as Republicans except Mae who delines to state a party affiliation.

David Hughes was a bookkeeper for the Transit Authority. Later he was a noted repair person of sewing machines for one of the sewing machine companies.
Cousins Don and Dave and Uncle Dave Hughes made crystal radio sets for Elaine and Vivian and Otis's kids as Christmas presents. The Hughes boys and their dad also built a yacht called the Viola D. in their big shed and finally got it over to Alameda at the Aeolian Yacht Club. The yacht slept four.
David was quite a craftsman. They added a darling little house that was one bedroom, living room, dining and kitchen with a one car garage that faced West Street. The oldest son, David, and his wife lived in this house. Their first child, Joyce, was born there. Their son David III died in an automobile accident. Joyce lives around Danville.
Don had three children and his wife Helen Hoover Hughes is living around San Jose.
Aunt Viola took in children in child care for extra money. They added another story to their house.
