Doke L. Shields Succumbs At 70
BAILEYSVILLE (RNS) -- Doke L. Shields, 70, of Dunedin, Fla., formerly of Baileysville, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday in a Dunedin hospital. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
He was born Jan. 24, 1894 at Baileysville, a son of the late Alex and Cloea Shields.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Violet Cline Shields; five son, Roy of Mullens, Ira of Charleston, Harry of Hayward, Calif., Doke Jr. of Elyria, Ohio and Gary Shields, at home; five daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Bendetta of Santa Anna, Calif., Mrs. Letha Adams of Anaheim, Calif., Mrs. Mary Jo Cline of Freemont, Calif., Mrs. Billie Marie Starkey of Hayward, Calif., and Miss Aretta Shields of Elyria, Ohio; two brothers, Will of Davy and Iva of New Martinsville, Va.; a sister, Mrs. E. Pierce Rose of Pineville; 23 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Baileysville Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Rollins in charge. Burial will be in the Shields Cemetery at Baileysville.
The body will arrive at the Sam Foglesong Funeral Home in Mullens today.
Graveside rites will be conducted by Pineville Chapter No. 138, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
