- Obituary:
Frank Jr. Davenport, 89 of Windfall,and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Monday, July 28th, at IU Health in Tipton following a brief illness. Frank was born to Frank and Hazel (Dever) Davenport, November 2,1924, in Elwood and married Madonna Lois (Coe) on April 4, 1947. Madonna preceded him in death in 2008. He married Martha Alice Sanders in 2009. He attended Wendell L.Wilkie High School and would have received his diploma, however during his senior year he left to serve in the Navy from 1942-1946. In 2002 Frank did finally receive his high school diploma through the Indiana Delayed High School Diploma program for veterans.
He worked at Indiana Gas Co for 42 years, retiring in 1988. Frank was a member of the Main Street Wesleyan Church (Elwood) until 2009. He then transferred his membership to Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, Marion, IN. Frank enjoyed playing golf, a challenging game of ping pong, playing his guitar, singing, and listening to southern gospel music.
Frank is survived by his wife Martha Alice of Windfall, one daughter Alleta Tippey (husband Bob) of Elwood, one son Aaron (wife Sherryl) of Brownsburg, four grandchildren, Heather Chambers (husband Chris) of Alexandria, Sabrina McKnight (husband Caleb) of Middletown, Mallory Loken (husband Kris), Salt Lake City, Utah, Bryan Davenport, Brownsburg. Frank had three great grandchildren, Aurora, Elliot and Gracyn McKnight, three step-grandchildren, Rich Tippey (wife Loura), Fredericksburg, VA., Rob Tippey (wife Melinda), Ft. Wayne, Ryan Tippey (wife Courtney), Beech Grove, twelve step great grandchildren, Kara, Rachel, Emma, Lyla, Ava, Dathan, Raegan, Corban, Kameron, Kersten, Peyton and Dallas.
Along with his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Wayne, Ned, Elmo and Leon Davenport.
Funeral service will be Saturday, August 2nd, at 11:00 AM, at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood with Revs. Bob VanCise and Tony Bye officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the US Navy and the Elwood VFW American Honor Guard Unit.
Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Dunnichay Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Brookhaven Food Pantry in care of Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, 2960 East 38th St, Marion, IN 46953.
