He is listed in the 1860 US census Fannin Co, TX as John W. Kennedy age 7 male (per David Jones Nov. 4 2002). As an adult, his occupations listed on the censuses were farmer and landlord.
He apparently had some trouble marrying Josephine Pitchlynn because of his divorce from Vitura Seybold.

Gentlemen:
Receipt is hereby acknowledged of your letter of the 11th instant, in reference to the enrollment of John W. Jones as an intermarried citizen of the Choctaw Nation.
On December 22, 1902, John W. Jones appeared before the Commission to the Five Civilized Tribes and testified that he had been married twice prior to his marriage to his Indian wife, and from one of whom he had been divorced. It will be necessary before any further action can be taken in this matter, that evidence of said divorce be filed as early as practicable.

The jailer has received and taken the measure of the following prisoners
John Turner and Ellis Whistler, by Deputy Bart Solomon, on charges of introducing; each furnished bond. Robert Bybee, carrying weapons. Deputy B. T. Hughes made the arrest; gave bond. Joe Bowers, gaming, by Deputy J. B. Pemberton; gave bond. George Sanders, gaming. Deputy M. Woods delivered prisoner to jailer; committed. John Jones and General Smith, introducing and selling, arrested by Deputy J.S. Ward; committed. Charles Barber, introducing and selling, arrested by Deputy D. Adams; committed.
Deputy Depew was up from McAlester Wednesday. He states that since the court at Ardmore has given the defendants convicted of crime the punishment they deserve, many escapes from officers have occurred [25 Apr 1891]

The CALVIN ENTERPRISE of 21 Feb 1913, reported in the local and personal column, J.W. Jones died on Sunday Feb 15 1913 and will be buried on Sunday. The Calvin Enterprise had reported on the sudden illness of J.W. Jones in the Feb 14 and 1 editions Oklahoma Historical Society.
He is buried in the Calvin Cemetery. There are two other Jones buried there:
- Ernest P. Jones, 1906-1906 (could this be the EVERT on the census?)
- Josephine P. Jones, 1878-1906
