- Obituary:
John Tatum Hardy, Sr. 88, of Liberty House Nursing Home in Clifton Forge and formerly of Cliftondale Park, Clifton Forge died Saturday morning, February 1, 2003 at Alleghany Regional Hospital. He was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia on November 9, 1914 a son of the late David H. And Sarah Cloud Hardy. He was a retired Chief Clerk with the former C. & O. Railroad, and was a member for 60 plus years of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks Union. He was active in the Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge and was a member of the Men's Bible Class and the church Choir.
He was also a member of Lakeside Methodist Church in Richmond, Va.
In his earlier years, he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps "C.C.C." he was a member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge # 1065 for 31 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ella Landrum Hardy in October of 1996.
He is survived by 4 sons and daughters-in -law, John Tatum, Jr. And Ellen Petrea Hardy of Fayetteville, N.C. and of Tappahannock, Va., Robert Lee and Deanna Ostrowski Hardy of Williamsburg, Va., Charles Thomas and Debra Gaeverick Hardy of Galion, Ohio, and David Brooke and Nancy Franks Hardy of Dover, Delaware; a sister Thelma Virginia Shanklin of George, Iowa; 2 sisters in law, Mrs. Dave H. "Estelle" Hardy, Jr. Of Clifton Forge and Mrs. Walter E. "Millie" Hardy of Roanoke, Va.; 12 Grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters, David Hamilton Hardy, Jr., Bessie Ray Michie, Mary Eliazbeth Brinkley, Leta Alma Hardy and Walter Edward "Jack" Hardy.
