- George W. Copeland lived with his family in Carrolton, GA. Sometime after 1899 he went to TX and found a place for his family to settle. (He possibly had Palmer relatives of his mother, Lucinda Palmer already living in TX). He went back to GA to move his wife Martha Elvira (Bonner)
Copeland and family to TX [sometime after Pearl’s birth on May 19 (or 13?), 1899 in Heard Co., GA and at least 9 months prior to Charlie’s birth on Aug 17, 1901 in Seattle, Coryell Co., TX]. When they were packing up to move to TX, friends & family who would stay in Georgia “warned” that they better dress in their worst clothes, because those TEXANS will want to steal your money! So they came to TX by train in their worst clothes. They also said there wouldn’t be any sweet potatoes in TX. Minnie was a little girl (around 10 years old) & she overheard the adults say this. They had baked sweet potatoes the night before they left. Minnie hid hers in her pocket so she could have a sweet potato in TX. Of course it got squashed!
