- The following info is from "100 Years in Bandera 1853-1953" by J. Marvin Hunter:
Lucius Hicks is the son of the pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. Fabian L. Hicks, and was born in Bandera county, February 16, 1877. On June 28, 1908 he was married to Miss Annie Kelly at the ranch home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Kelly, in Frio Canyon in Uvalde county. The happy bride and groom moved immediately to their ranch home in Upper Hondo Canyon and started ranching on a basis of 50-50 operations. They experienced the same "ups and downs" of all West Texas ranchers, and now at the ages of 76 and 70, respectively, they still do (written in 1953) a big part in the things to be done on the ranch, ably assisted by their daughter, Dorothy, her husband, Felix Brandt, and the one grandchild, Terry L. Brandt, the pride and joy of the entire ranch. Mrs. Hicks was born in Uvalde county, Texas, February 18, 1883, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Kelly, pioneer citizens of the Frio Canyon. She was one of a large family, so was early in life taught that each one contribute a share of their lives to the family and the community, as well as to be self-supporting. Teaching was Mrs. Hicks's choice of professions.
