He was of slender build and walked with a spring in his step. He always wore a broad brim hat and had a walking stick when walking. He would take couple of steps, swing his walking stick, and say all men should have one. Grandpa had thick, wavy white hair, a big white mustache, and light blue eyes. He always wore a white or light blue shirt and a black bow tie, even at home. Grandpa had a beautiful tenor voice, even in his 70's. He was a Deacon of the Second Baptist Church in Lufkin, knew the Bible, and did not hesitate to correct even the preacher." (Ivaline)
When he and his second wife, Miss Vada, moved to Lufkin, they lived for a time in half of Pawpaw and Grandmother's house on Dozier. Mother and Daddy, as young marrieds, lived in the other half. During this time, Pawpaw and Grandmother had moved back to Colmesneil for a time. Then Grandpa bought a little house out Lufkin Land. He walked every day in to the post office...quite a little jaunt. "He came to see Mother almost every day. One day he told her that he thought he had lived long enough and he was ready to die. He went home and went to bed and refused to eat. He lived about two months and died on the cold night of 10 Jan 1945." (Ivaline)
