Fort DeKalb Jany 16th 1839
This is to certify that Cornelius B. Tollett has served as a volunteer Ranger in the service of the Republic of Texas for the term of three months at said fort and is hereby honorably discharged from said service and is entitled to all the payments and emoluments for such service.

Cornelius Brown Tollett enlisted for the Mexican War 6 July 1846 at Washington, Arkansas. He joined Captain Hunter's Company, Company G, of the Mounted Regiment of the Arkansas Infantry. The Regimental commander was Colonel Archibald Yell. Other officers of his company were 1st Leutenant J. S. Dollarhide, 2nd Leutenants R. M. Cown and G. C. Steward. He brought a horse valued at $40 and horse equipment valued at $15. He was attending sick at the Trinity River by order of Colonel Yell from 10 August 1846. He died 24 October 1846 at Camp Rio Grande [Records in the National Archives as found by Carroll Kennedy, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland in February 1997.].
