- John F. Oxendine was buried an Exendine in Shewmaker Cemetery 3 miles east of Galena in Jasper County, Missouri. Go south 1/10 mile on Central City Road on the west side of the road---4 rows back from the fence. Marker J. F. E. Saturday, May 21, 1887-Short Creek Republican, Grandpa Exendine obituary.
An affidavit signed by J. F. Exendine reads as follows:
My name is J. F. Exendine. I reside at the present in Jasper County, State of Missouri. My age is 76 years old. I was born in Overton County, State of Tennessee. On the Obeges river. January 4, 1805 and was well aquainted with "James Smith" who was called by the Cherokee indians than "Buck" Smith. I also knew his mother whose maiden name was Nancy Ann Shoemake. And his father was "Sanders Smith" and they were both Cherokee indian.
They had three children whose names were "Buck" or "James", Nancy, and Jourden Smith. Buck or James Smith marr "Polly Exendine" who was my sister. They had children whos names were Harvy, Loucinda, Martha, John, Emily, Mary Charity, Rosey.
Loucinda, married twice. Her Children and both of her husbands I knew them. Her first child was named "Margaret" who married "Richard Puffer". "Louisa Jane" married George Brown" She had five other children, named James Erwin, William Wade, Thomas Kirkman, Louise, and Sarah. The last five bear the name of "McDonald". And all of the children were cherokee indian by blood.
Descendants fo "Loucinda Smith".
I know these facts from my own personal knowledge. Witness my hand this day of December 1881.
