Before he died, his son Ephriam petitioned the court to examine his father's mental condition and said that Johnson was an imbecile from old age and incapable of managing either his person or property. In October 1860, Johnson's personal property was sold at auction. Most of all of Johnson's household goods were purchased by members of the Fargason family.
