Katherine Law McLoon
Died on July 21, 2002 in San Rafael at age 91. Born in Roseville in 1910, Mrs. McLoon was a fourth generation Californian. She grew up in Piedmont, graduated from Miss Ransom's School in Oakland and attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she was affiliated with the Alpha Phi sorority. She married Robert Barnsdall Law of New York and Santa Cruz, California in 1937. During the early years of their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Law resided on his farm in Scotts Valley. In 1944 they purchased the Paicines Ranch in San Benito County on which Mr. Law operated a cattle business until his death in 1974. She maintained a home on the ranch until 1989 at which time she moved to the Villa Marin retirement community in San Rafael. In 1982 she married John Hood McLoon of Rockland, Maine, who had been a long-time friend of Mr. and Mrs. Law. Mr. McLoon died in 1985. A travel enthusiast in her later years, Mrs. McLoon visited Europe numerous times, as well as Turkey, and North and South Africa. Mrs. McLoon's San Francisco affiliations included the Town and Country Club, the Metropolitan Club, the Villa Taverna and the Century Club. She was also a member of the Casa Abrego Club in Monterey & the North Fork Association in Nevada County. Her family includes two children, Robin Law Pryor of Belvedere and Robert Barnsdall Law, Jr. of Reno, NV; a brother, Capt. Chantee Lewis, USN Ret. of Newport, RI; a nephew, T.N. Law, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; two grandchildren, Katharine Kelso Novak of San Anselmo and Jana Law Guaimano of Discovery Bay; two great grandchildren, Woods and Emily Novak; and a special companion, Frances Cruz of San Pablo. A family memorial service will be held. Memorial gifts may be made to your favorite charity.
