      Announcement Of Engagement Is Made At
      Delightfully Appointed Tea Given In Mrs. B.R. Roberts' Home
      Revealed at an announcement tea in the home of Mrs. B.R. Roberts of Griffing Park, the engagement and approaching marriage of Gloria Whittington, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Whittington, 3725 34th street, and Corporal Thomas M.Cloud of Fort Bliss, is attracting wide interest here.
      The wedding will take place in El Paso on May 20.
      Miss Whittington was born and reared in Port Arthur and is a graduate of the local high school. Corporal Cloud is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Cloud of Oklahoma City and is now stationed with the signal corps at Fort Bliss, where the couple will make their home. He attended Port Arthur college recently, studying radio with other soldiers from Fort Bliss.
      Guests Received
      At the tea, more than 75 guests called during the receiving hours and were registered in the guest book. Each was presented with miniature old-fashioned nosegays of sweetheart roses.
      Members of the house party included Mesdames Aline Carlin and Margie Cruthirds of Orange and Rosemary Vincent, Leta Beth Bythewood, and Misses LaVerne Bradley, Mary Edmiston and Gunda Fleischmann.
      Engagement Revealed
      Revealing the engagement were the names of the engaged couple and date in gold letterings inscribed on long streamers of a large satin bow, which graced one end of the refreshment board.
      The reception rooms were attractively arranged with calla lillies and white roses. The only lighting were tapers in candelabra flanking a crystal bowl of white lilies on the buffet. The board was covered with cutwork linen and. Refreshments were served on rose-point crystal. Punch was served from a large crystal bowl mounted on a reflector embanked with lilies.

      Prospective Bride Named Honoree At Lovely
      Prenuptial Tea Given Prior To Departure For El Paso
      Scheduled to take place in El Paso Wednesday is the marriage of Gloria Whittington, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Whittington, 3725 34th street, to Corporal Thomas M. Cloud of Fort Bliss, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M Cloud of Oklahoma City, Okla.
      Miss Whittington will be accompanied to El Paso by her great aunt, Mrs. G. W. Hooks of Beaumont, and while there will be the guests of Mrs. Hooks' son, E.M. Hooks.
      Miss Whittington is a native of Port Arthur and is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson high school. Corp. Cloud recently attended Port Arthur college, where he took a radio course with other soldiers from Fort Bliss. He is now stationed with the signal corps at Fort Bliss.
      Prenuptial Tea
      As a prenuptial courtesy for the May bride-elect, Mrs W. L. Shoemake, Mrs. B.R. Bythewood, Mrs. W.I. Whaley and Mrs. E.W. Thames entertained with a lovely tea at the Thames home on 32nd street.
      Approximately 65 guests called during the evening. Receiving were the hostesses, the honoree and her mother, Mrs. D.E. Whittington. In charge of the guest book were Ruth Goss and Laverne Bradley.
      Appointments suggested a pink and white theme with pink and white roses being arranged about the rooms and forming the center piece for the lace-laid tea table. Presiding at the punch bowl were Mrs. E.W. Goss, Jr., and Mrs. L.C. Roberts.
      Guests were entertained during the evening with piano selections by Jessie Lee Whitmire. Others in the house party were Mary Frances Poole, Ora Lee Bland, Gwendolyn Gilchriest, Mary Ann Edmiston, Jewel Paul, Dorothy Culpepper, Edna Culpepper, Ina Eaves, and Gloria Owens.
