She is reported to have had 24 children and none living to be a year old. Some of the current speculation for the cause of this happening is that there was an incompatible blood combination between her and her husband John Puckett. Despite these setbacks, "Aunt" Alene was a midwife to the surrounding neighbors, reported to have delivered over 1,000 children over a seventy year period. She attended the delivery of Maxwell Hawks in the last year of her life. The cabin is not at the location in which she and John lived and it may not even be the cabin they lived in, but it is typical of the area and the time.
