Notes |
- Alena Puckett is famous as a result of part of her life being revealed as a local history of people along the Blue Ridge Parkway. She is reported to have had 24 children and none living to be a year old. Some of the current speculation for the cause of this happening is that there was an incompatible blood combination between her and her husband John Puckett. Despite these setbacks, "Aunt" Alene was a midwife to the surrounding neighbors, reported to have delivered over 1,000 children over a seventy year period. She attended the delivery of Maxwell Hawks in the last year of her life. For more information on Alene, refer to the Carroll County Heritage book or visit the Puckett Cabin on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Carroll County, Virginia. The cabin is not at the location in which she and John lived and it may not even be the cabin they lived in, but it is typical of the area and the time.
