  Notes	Buried in Rushing Creek Cemetery. Tombstone states " age 48 yrs, 9 mos., 19 days" (1) From " Taproots; A Virgina and Carolina Legacy" by Paul R. White "Abel Rushing came from Anson County, North Carolina, where he was born 8 November 1787. "They lived in MiddleTennessee until 1819, when they came to the western portion of the state. The father was one of the hardy pioneer woodmen and for forty years was a farmer. He was in the War of 1812, and Rushing Creek in Benton County derived its name from him and Willis, Dennis and Phillip Rushig, they having built the first cabins in West Tennessee, on that stream." He maried Sarah Griffin (born 20 March 1788 and died 29 November 1857). He settled supposedly in 1805, on White Oak Creek in the northwest corner of Humphreys Conty, just across the Tennesswee River from Benton County. He died 27 August 1836 and was buried at the Rushing Creek Baptist Chruch Cemetery in Benton County, Tennessee where his grave, and that of his wife and numerous relatives can still be seen.
