SLEEP WELL YE CAMDEN DEAD
Yet onceagian, I came and stood,
In this village of our dead.
In reminiscent thoughtand mood,
I walked with reverent tread.
We miss them, yet we would not bring
Them back to war's red blight.
They've had their joys, endured life's sting.
So rest ye through the night.
Ye sturdy oaks and evergreens,
While your tireless, vigil keep,
Spread wide, your branches o'er these graves.
Wherein our loved ones sleep.
While standing guard ye gallant trees,
Through which the four winds blow,
Please whisper ye to the spirit land
So those who sleep may know.
That now we're fighting to sustain
The heritage they bequeathed,
They've done their part, now safe at rest,
They lie in peace beneath.
