- Obituary:
Miriam Lothair Whittington went to be with Jesus on March 3, 2022 at the age of 92. A daughter and granddaughter were privileged to be by her side as she left for her final home.
Miriam was born in Houston, Texas where she grew up. She went to Baylor University, met her husband Mark, and followed him in ministry for the next fifty years. From 1974-1998 she was the pastor's wife at Calvary Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas. She is survived by her daughters - Rebecca Burchett and husband Dale, Deborah Adams and husband Bill, Gerri Morehouse and husband Paul; seven grandchildren, Keith Rogers, Jewell Lowe, David Burchett, Miriam Chickering, Ruth Koehler, Judy Morehouse, and Paul Morehouse IV; nineteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren -- who all loved her dearly.
Miriam enjoyed herself the most when everyone was having fun, and she could be in the middle of the party. She often told stories on herself to keep the fun going. Recently, she told about spending the night all alone in First Baptist Houston as a teenager. When she returned to the basement to get her purse and the lights went out, she was too embarrassed to call someone to let her out. Instead, she called her mom to say she was spending the night with a friend. When the secretaries came the next morning, she sneaked out and took a bus home. Her mom never knew. Her mom never knew many of her adventures, but we do, and she is a legend to us.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mark Whittington, sister Lillian Howell, and grandson John Burchett.
The memorial service will be Saturday, March 12, 10:00 am at Northside Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas. A memorial fund for Calvary Baptist Church and School is established in her name at www.calvaryconroe.org. Specify in memory of Miriam Whittington.
